Why Financial Education Is No Longer Optional in Europe – And How We Can Fix It

Despite living in one of the world’s most economically developed regions, millions of Europeans still lack the basic financial knowledge needed to make informed decisions. This isn’t just a statistic—it’s a silent crisis affecting families, professionals, and future generations.

Let me explain.

The State of Financial Literacy in Europe

According to surveys by the OECD and the European Central Bank, less than half of European adults can answer basic questions about inflation, interest rates, and investing. In countries like Italy, France, Spain and even Hungary, financial education is limited, inconsistent, or completely absent from school curricula.

You can find interesting data from the EU at the end of this article.

This has real-world consequences:

  • Young adults are overwhelmed by credit, debt, and inflation.

  • Families aren’t planning for retirement or education costs.

  • Many professionals don’t invest at all—or they do so without clear strategy or understanding of risk.

The result? Stress, lost opportunities, and avoidable financial mistakes.

Why Basic Financial Skills Matter

We all need to:

  • Understand how to manage money, not just earn it.

  • Build savings and protect ourselves from inflation.

  • Know the difference between safe and speculative investments.

  • Be able to evaluate mortgages, insurance, pensions, and other financial products with confidence.

Unfortunately, many people are left to learn through trial and error—or worse, not learn at all.

A Simple Solution: Start With the Basics

This is exactly why we created a Finance for Beginners course: to make finance practical, clear, and accessible, regardless of background or profession.

The course helps participants:

  • Gain control over their money through budgeting and planning.

  • Understand how investing works—from stocks to bonds.

  • Avoid financial pitfalls and scams.

  • Set clear, achievable financial goals.

It’s not about complex formulas or stock tips—it’s about building confidence and long-term clarity.

Who It’s For

Whether you’re:

  • An expat trying to navigate a new country’s financial system,

  • A young professional starting to save and invest,

  • Or simply someone who never had the chance to learn

This course is designed for real life, not just theory.

Within the Banking Advisory group, my trained financial team can utilise my regular posts to refine their strategy.
